around the edges
of my new hand mirror,
faux jewels glitter
        as if such distraction
        could brighten the view

a new heart charm,
another year of union;
I’ve wondered, though,
what happens when
all the links have been filled

my stolen
Valentine pendant,
at its center
a golden, mythical bird
wings no longer mine
