Okay, I feel stupid, but I have to say: I don't get this one. (Then again, I know next to nothing about baseball.)

Part of the poetry of baseball, aurora,is that, since it's not a clock game, there's no intrinsic reason, apart from human mortality, that the game, and therefore the season, must ever end. There's always the possibility of yet another extra inning.

Thanks for the explanation, Bill. Now that I know there's poetry in baseball, maybe I'll start paying attention to the sport. :)

Some years I can't wait for the season to be over, some years I wish it would last forever. Good one, Bill.

The playoffs have really messed things up for me. You're probably not old enough, Collin, to remember when the World Series was the World Series, a unique event in American sports. Now it's just the finals. And the "regular season" is just the elimination round. Still, it's a darlin game.
